The Inuit Circumpolar Council (ICC) Alaska is currently seeking a detail
oriented, highly organized and experienced Traditional Knowledge/Science
Advisor. The position is based in Anchorage, Alaska.
The position will work to implement the objectives under the Traditional
Knowledge/Science Development Project. Among other responsibilities, the
successful applicant will:
- Conduct assessments, identify and prioritize research activities
for the organization, and work with the other ICC offices to find
areas of collaboration with existing activities and projects;
- Develop a research plan for a comprehensive baseline assessment
and analysis of the arctic food chain in the Alaskan Inuit regions;
- Develop and work with leadership to implement a plan for
meaningful engagement in research work occurring in the Arctic
Council and other research forums of interest to Alaskan Inuit;
- Review and monitor Arctic Council research activities and projects
and advise ICC Alaska leadership on current research activities;
- Engage with partners such as Oceana on mapping projects and
coordinate with similar research activities occurring in the Alaska
Inuit regions;
- Work with the grant writer to develop a funding plan for research
activities, and assist the grant writer in researching and writing
grants to carry out implementation plans; and
- Promote the use of traditional knowledge in scientific research.
Candidates must have a Bachelor's degree and/or a minimum of 5 years of
experience related to work in the traditional knowledge/science field. A
Master's degree is preferred. Applicants should also possess excellent
communication skills including the ability to maintain a courteous and
professional demeanor with member and affiliate organizations, and the
ability to learn, work independently, and organize and prioritize work.
Experience with Inuit or Alaska Native non-profit organizations is
preferred.
