The Department of Geology in the School of Earth, Society, and
Environment at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign is
searching for a full-time, tenure-track assistant professor in the
broadly defined area of Global Change Geology. The position will be
based in Urbana, Illinois.
Examples of relevant research areas include the following:
- The global carbon cycle, including connections to the deep Earth,
weathering, and carbon sequestration. - Paleoclimatology, isotope geochemistry, and other studies of
environmental change records. - Studies of Earth materials and elements (e.g., clathrates, nitrogen,
iron, sulfur) related to climate and the evolution of life. - Glaciology and other earth science studies of modern environmental
change.
Applicants must have a PhD and demonstrate the potential to establish an
internationally recognized, externally funded research program. An
ability to contribute to excellence in education at the graduate and
undergraduate levels in geosciences, and in interdisciplinary aspects of
the School of Earth, Society, and the Environment, is also required.

Sabbatical Replacement, Environmental Studies

Gettysburg College invites applications for a two-year sabbatical
replacement position at the rank of assistant professor in the
interdisciplinary Environmental Studies Department
(http://www.gettysburg.edu/academics/es/). The position will be located
in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania and will begin August 2011.
The successful candidate must have a PhD in a discipline related to
environmental science, have a commitment to interdisciplinary teaching
in the liberal arts tradition, and involve undergraduate students in
their research. Specialization may be in any environmental science, but
expertise in wildlife ecology or restoration ecology is preferred. The
successful candidate will teach introductory courses to majors and
non-majors, as well as upper level courses in their area of expertise.
