Organizers of Session AS2.4, "Boundary Layers in High Latitudes:
Physical and Chemical Processes, Observational and Monitoring Programs,
Modeling, and Analysis," announce a call for abstracts.

This session is intended to provide an interdisciplinary forum to bring
together researchers working in the areas of high-latitude tropospheric
meteorology, climate, and chemistry with an emphasis on the role of
boundary layer processes. Organizers invite contributions in the
following areas:

- Results from recent field programs (such as OASIS);
- Research that bridges atmospheric chemistry, climate, and
meteorology in the polar regions;
- Advances in modeling and reanalysis, including model assessment;
- Long-term changes in surface processes including
snow-ice/atmosphere chemical exchange;
- Observation and modeling of surface energy budgets;
- Coastal change; and
- Application of new technology.

In past years organizers have requested a schedule where poster sessions
follow oral sessions to allow for oral poster introductions. For those
who indicate a "no preference" request for the presentation style, we
encourage a poster supplement to allow for further discussion.
Organizers would like to encourage young scientist/student presentations
by reserving one oral unit per session for such papers.

Organizers of Session CR9.1, "Sea Ice and Sea Ice-Climate Interactions,"
announce a call for abstracts.

The year 2008 was another very low sea ice year in the Arctic. Some
climate models now predict that summer arctic sea ice might altogether
disappear in about 30 or 40 years. While the effects of a shrinking sea
ice cover on global climate, ocean circulation, and marine biology are
expected to be quite significant, they are very difficult to evaluate
because of our incomplete understanding of the polar climate components
and our limited ability to model them.

The scientific community is investing considerable effort in organizing
our current knowledge of the physical and biogeochemical properties of
sea ice, exploring poorly understood sea ice processes, and forecasting
future changes of the sea ice cover.

In this session, organizers invite contributions regarding all aspects
of sea ice science and sea ice-climate interactions. Oral presentations
and posters on snow and sea ice thermodynamics and dynamics, sea
ice-atmosphere and sea ice-ocean interactions, sea ice biological and
chemical processes, and sea ice models will be welcome.

    2010 Alaska Marine Science Symposium

Organizers announce that the agenda for the 2010 Alaska Marine Science
Symposium, which will be convened 18-22 January 2010 at the Hotel
Captain Cook in Anchorage, Alaska, is now available online. The agenda
includes plenary session speakers, workshops and other sessions,
lunchtime events, and keynotes.

Scientists from Alaska, the Pacific Northwest, the nation, and beyond
will gather in Anchorage to discuss their research in the large marine
ecosystems of the Arctic, the Bering Sea, and the Gulf of Alaska.
Plenary and poster sessions will feature the latest research on climate,
oceanography, lower trophic levels, the benthos, fishes and
invertebrates, seabirds, marine mammals, and local and traditional
knowledge.
