The Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution (WHOI) seeks applications for
the position of research assistant. The position is full-time, and based
in Woods Hole, Massachusetts.
The successful candidate will provide electronics and mechanical support
for construction, laboratory testing, operation, field installation, and
maintenance of scientific instruments and platforms, primarily in
ice-covered oceans. The position also participates in the organization,
interpretation, and summary of test results and acquired experimental
data using computer programs.
A Bachelor's degree in engineering, or its equivalent, is required, as
is related experience. Previous polar field experience, and knowledge of
oceanographic instrumentation or data handling techniques, are considered
assets.
The position requires substantial sea duty, including strenuous labor,
in cold regions in late winter and summers. Canadian security and health
clearances will be required to participate on cruises, as may a
Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) card.

- University of California, Santa Barbara seeks Postdoctoral Candidate
Santa Barbara, California
The University of California, Santa Barbara seeks a postdoctoral
candidate for a position in physical limnology and air-sea interactions.
The position is full-time, and based in Santa Barbara, California.
The successful candidate will study the physics of gas exchange at the
air-water interface. Study sites include lakes in the Arctic, temperate
zone, and tropics. The initial appointment is for one year; continuation
beyond that will be based on performance and availability of funding.
Applicants must have completed a PhD in physical limnology, physical
oceanography, boundary layer meteorology, or environmental engineering.
Demonstrated experience in analysis and interpretation of observational
data and a record of communicating research results are required. As the
research is partially field-oriented, candidates should have proven
ability to conduct research successfully under arduous field conditions.
Experience in modeling and working as part of an interdisciplinary team
is also desirable. The department is especially interested in
candidates who can contribute to the diversity and excellence of the
academic community through research, teaching, and service.
