Henrietta (Hedy) Edmonds joined the Office of Polar Programs in April
2009 as Arctic Natural Sciences Program Director, replacing Jane Dionne,
who retired in 2008. Edmonds' appointment is a permanent staff position.
In addition to working with Bill Wiseman on the diverse Arctic Natural
Sciences Program, Edmonds will also manage the Postdoctoral Fellowships
in Polar Regions Research.

Edmonds is a marine chemist with research interests in both tracer
oceanography and hydrothermal geochemistry. She earned a B.S. in
Chemistry from Yale in 1991 and a PhD in Oceanography from the
Massachusetts Institute of Technology/Woods Hole Oceanographic
Institution Joint Program in 1997. She did postdoctoral work at the
University of Rhode Island and at the Southampton Oceanography Center in
the U.K. before joining the faculty at the Department of Marine Science
and Marine Science Institute at the University of Texas at Austin in
1999.
