Organizers of Session A11, "Composition of the Arctic Atmosphere:
Sources, Transport, Chemistry, and Impacts on Clouds and Climate,"
announce a call for abstracts. The session will be convened at the
American Geophysical Union (AGU) Fall Meeting, 14-18 December 2009, in
San Francisco, California.

The International Polar Year has brought renewed attention to the
Arctic. During the winter and spring, pollutants from the mid-latitudes
are transported to the Arctic, contributing to the occurrence of arctic
haze. During the spring and summer, biomass burning emissions are
transported to the Arctic as a result of boreal forest fires and
agricultural burning. Industrial, urban, and shipping activities and
natural emissions within the Arctic also provide sources for gases and
aerosols. These species alter the chemistry of the Arctic atmosphere,
radiative forcing within the atmosphere and at the surface, surface
albedo and reflectance, and the microphysics and radiative effects of
clouds. This session will focus on results from modeling studies, long
term measurements, satellite observations, and intensive field campaigns
that provide insight into sources and sinks within and outside of the
Arctic, transport to the Arctic, chemical processing of aerosol and gas
phase species including halogens, and impacts on clouds and climate.

The abstract submission deadline for this and all other sessions is
Thursday, 3 September 2009, at 11:59 pm Eastern Daylight Time. To submit
an abstract, you must enter the first author's current AGU member ID and
password at: http://agu-fm09.abstractcentral.com/.
