The Center for Environmental Management of Military Lands (CEMML) at
Colorado State University announces seasonal archaeologist positions for
the summer 2009 field season, in support of the U.S. Army Alaska
Cultural Resources Program. The archaeologists will be assigned to one
of two locations: Fort Wainwright, in Fairbanks, Alaska, or the Fort
Wainwright Donnelly Training Area, in Delta Junction, Alaska. U.S.
citizenship is required.
The positions are seasonal and will run approximately 3-6 months,
beginning in late May or early June 2009. If necessary, work after
August may be scheduled based on weather conditions. Crews typically
work four 10-hour days each week. Crew members conduct archaeological
fieldwork, including survey, testing, and data recovery. Work will focus
on completing archaeological surveys of proposed project areas and may
include the evaluation of sites for NRHP eligibility. Crews based out of
Fairbanks may also complete survey projects at Fort Richardson, in
Anchorage, Alaska.
To be considered for a Crew Leader, applicants must meet the following
qualifications:
- BA/BS in anthropology or archaeology,
- Completion of an archaeological field school, and
- Graduate work in archaeology.
To be considered for a Crew Member, applicants must meet the minimum
requirements:
- Completion of junior year in an anthropology degree program with
emphasis in archaeology, or
- Completion of an archaeological field school.
Preferred applicants will have knowledge of North America, arctic or
sub-arctic archaeology, previous Alaskan experience, and/or previous
archaeological field experience. Applicants must be in very good
physical condition, be able to walk long distances in adverse terrain
and weather conditions, carrying all necessary supplies and equipment,
and be able to camp in remote areas if needed. Applicants must be
extremely flexible, be able to work well with others, and posses a
positive attitude.
PLEASE NOTE:
Travel expenses to Alaska will not be paid. No housing or per diem will
be provided at either assignment location. Applicants are responsible
for securing housing and arriving daily at assigned installation.
Transportation will be provided to individual work sites. Per diem and
camping will only be provided if projects require remote camping or for
any Fort Richardson assignments.

3) Copy of college transcripts; and
4) Name and daytime phone number for three references, including one
current or former supervisor.
Transcripts do not need to be official, sealed, or sent directly from
the school. All application materials must be received by Wednesday, 15
April 2009. Incomplete applications will not be considered. Qualified
applicants may be contacted after the closing date to schedule an
interview.
