The Prince William Sound Science Center (PWSSC), in Cordova, Alaska,
would like to announce a position opening for a field biologist and
laboratory technician. The biologist/lab technician will assist both in
the lab and on research cruises collecting samples and data related to a
herring forage contingency project. Review of applications will begin
Wednesday, 28 January 2009, and will continue until the position is
filled.

The major duties associated with this position involve preparation and
analysis of fish and zooplankton laboratory samples, sample management,
and data entry. The technician will be expected to perform laboratory
analytical protocols including microscopy and bomb calorimetry. Some of
the lab samples will be prepared for stable isotope analysis at labs
outside of Cordova.

Presently, the field work requires 7-14 day cruises, approximately
two-three times each year. When not in the field (on cruises), the work
week will be a regular 40-hour week, although the hours may be worked on
a flexible schedule (i.e., four 10-hour days or five 8-hour days). When
in the field, the workload will require more than 40 hours and often
more than eight hours per day. As a salaried employee, the biologist/lab
technician's work days in the immediate pay period following a cruise
may be adjusted to approximate a regular work schedule.

Applicants to this position must have at least an associate's degree and
basic computer skills. A bachelor's degree and zoological taxonomic
experience is preferred. The starting date is Monday, 2 February 2009,
or as soon as possible thereafter.

To apply, please submit a cover letter explaining your interest in this
position and a resume, including your educational background, degrees
earned, and work experience. Please also include at least two references
with contact information. Submit these documents electronically to Dr.
Thomas Kline (tkline [at] pwssc.org) and Nancy Bird, PWSSC President
(nbird [at] pwssc.org).

Review of applications will begin on Wednesday, 28 January 2009, and
will continue until the position is filled.
