The Company of Biologists invites participation in the 2009 Journal of
Experimental Biology Symposium: Survival in a Changing World. The
symposium will be held 2-6 August 2009, at the Awaji Yumebutai
International Conference Center on Awaji Island, Japan, and is a
satellite to the International Union of Physiological Sciences (IUPS)
36th World Congress, being held in Kyoto, Japan, 27 July through 1
August 2009.

Climate change has already significantly impacted the habitats and
living conditions of many species, including our own. Anthropogenic
pollution and myriad releases of biologically active substances into the
environment have further changed the world for living organisms. This
symposium aims to assess the impacts many of these changes have had on
animal biodiversity and ecology, emphasizing adaptation and resilience
in physiological systems. The invited presentations will be published in
a special issue of the Journal of Experimental Biology.

Planned symposium sessions include:
- Climate change and its influence on terrestrial animals,
- Climate change and its influence on aquatic animals,
- Emerging zoonosis and human diseases,
- Animal resilience and adaptation in coping with changes, and
- Population and ecosystem responses to land use change and contaminants.

Open registration begins Monday, 26 January 2009. Space is limited. The
deadline for submitting poster abstracts is Thursday, 30 April 2009.
