Abstracts are now being accepted for session 6, "Indigenous Cultures -
Past and Future," to be convened during the International Symposium of
the 10th Arctic Science Summit Week (ASSW 2009), 24-26 March 2009, in
Bergen, Norway. This session offers an opportunity to bring indigenous
scholars, and scholars who have worked with indigenous communities, from
the Arctic into discussion with scientists from around the world. The

The session welcomes papers that address the challenges facing arctic
indigenous peoples in the past, present, and future and which enlighten
both the positive and negative opportunities and impacts. Presentations
will be 20 minutes followed by a 5-minute question and answer period.

The ASSW 2009 is jointly organized by the International Arctic Science
Committee (IASC), Arctic Ocean Science Board (AOSB), European Polar
Board (EPB), Pacific Arctic Group (PAG), Ny-Alesund Science Managers
Committee (NySMAC), Forum for Arctic Research Operators (FARO) and
International Arctic Social Sciences Association (IASSA). For the first
time, the ASSW 2009 will include an International Symposium with the
theme "Arctic Connections: Results of 150 Years of Research." The ASSW
2009 International Symposium is a high profile, international venue for
the presentation and exchange of the latest developments in arctic
science.
