The Center for Asia Pacific Women in Politics (CAPWIP) is pleased to
announce the Third Global Congress of Women in Politics and Governance,
to be held on 19-22 October 2008, in Makati City, Metro Manila,
Philippines. The theme of the congress is "Gender and Climate Change."
The conference aims to provide a forum for women legislators, women in
decision-making roles, and in environmental organizations, to formulate
gender-responsive legislation and policies toward global climate change.
Specific objectives of the conference include:
- Understanding the phenomenon of climate change, its impacts and
implications
- Reviewing and examining the gender aspects of climate change and
formulating appropriate actions
- Defining the roles women play in addressing the issues of climate
change at the global, national, and sub-national levels
- Identifying and defining the action agenda for parliamentarians,
policy advocates, and women leaders to support global and national
actions to adapt to and mitigate the impacts of climate change.
The discussion on gender and climate change will be organized around
identifying the challenges to action as well as defining the appropriate
responses to effectively address the impacts of climate change. Input to
the discussion will be collected and organized around geographic
location and types of actions (e.g., preparedness, risk reduction,
community resilience, adaptation, and mitigation).
Though the conference will be held 19-22 October, participants are
requested to be in Manila by 18 October 2008, and should not schedule to
leave until 23 October. Room accommodations at the Dusit Hotel will be
on a first come, first served basis.
