Papers are invited for "Evolving Coastal, Nearshore and Shelf Processes
in the Polar Regions" (session 1.3) being held at the Scientific
Committee on Antarctic Research (SCAR) / International Arctic Science
Committee (IASC) IPY Open Science Conference in St. Petersburg, Russia,
on 8-11 July 2008.
Session description:
The session provides a forum for discussions of recent developments in
the study of physical processes along polar coasts, in the nearshore
zone, and over polar continental shelves. The session encourages
submissions integrating several disciplines over the entire coastal
tract, from backshore areas to offshore shelf environments. Special
attention will be given to material and energy exchanges at the
land-ocean interface and on the shelf driven by nearshore and offshore
currents, tides, as well as surface and internal waves. Recent reports
on the theory, modeling, and observations of erosion, sediment
transport, and coastal morphodynamics are encouraged, as are
presentations of interdisciplinary research linked to biogeochemistry.
