The Arctic Research Consortium of the U.S. (ARCUS) is hosting an
informal information-sharing and networking meeting for IPY Education
and Outreach (EO) project representatives and other interested
participants during the American Geophysical Union (AGU) Fall Meeting in
San Francisco, California. The meeting will take place on Monday, 10
December 2007, from 4:30 to 6:00 p.m., at the Marriott Hotel, Sierra A
on the fifth floor.
With many IPY EO projects both in the start-up phase and currently
underway and myriad EO activities ongoing in the polar research
community, this meeting is an opportunity to present project updates,
share available EO products and resources, discuss future plans, and
expand networking and collaboration opportunities. The meeting will
immediately follow the IPY EO sessions, "Education, Outreach, and
Communications During the International Polar Year and Beyond" (sessions
ED11A, ED12A, and ED13A).
The meeting will consist of short presentations on current funded
projects and a discussion on sharing resources and working together. The
meeting is open to anyone working on IPY education and outreach and
those interested in discussing ways to collaborate and share
information. Participation from other U.S. and international
organizations and agencies conducting education and outreach during IPY
is particularly encouraged. Individuals planning to attend are requested
to contact Jenny Baeseman at: baeseman [at] arcus.org.
Abstracts and contact information for the projects funded by NSF through
two IPY Education and Outreach solicitations (2006 and 2007) are
available on the ARCUS website at:
http://www.arcus.org/Education/index_new.html
More information about these solicitations and other IPY activities is
available at:
http://www.nsf.gov/od/opp/ipy/ipyinfo.jsp
ARCUS also operates a public Polar Education listserve that provides an
online venue for educators, researchers, and learners to exchange
information about opportunities, challenges, methods, resources,
important events, and other useful topics. For more information and to
subscribe to the list, please go to:
