Since the mid 1990s, the Churchill Northern Studies Centre (CNSC) has
supported the work of researchers through their Northern Research Fund
(NRF). The goal of the NRF program is to enhance field research
conducted by scientists using the facilities and services of the Centre.
The Churchill Northern Studies Centre is pleased to announce that
applications are now being accepted for the NRF for 2008. All
researchers and all disciplines are eligible to apply with priority
given to new researchers and students.
This year's NRF program will provide the cash equivalent of $80,000 in
funding for research in the Churchill area. The fund is available to
assist researchers in meeting the financial needs of projects that will
lead to increased knowledge relevant to the people living in the North,
particularly in the region around Churchill. Northern Research Fund
support for 2008, available through the application process, is
anticipated to consist of:
- 500 user-days (CNSC accommodation and meals) and 100 vehicle-days
(vehicle support from the CNSC fleet) compliments of the CNSC;
- $30,000 in direct monetary support provided by Manitoba Conservation
and private donations;
- Various Winnipeg-Churchill travel vouchers compliments of Calm Air
International and VIA Rail; and
- NEW for 2008 - $20,000 in a field transportation fund to cover
transportation costs incurred as part of the field research program in
Churchill provided by a private donor.
