The NOAA program at the National Snow and Ice Data Center (NOAA@NSIDC)
announces the release of the "March through August Ice Edge Positions in
the Nordic Seas, 1750-2002" data set.
This product contains ice edge coordinates for the Nordic Seas from 1750
through 2002 for months March through August. Ice edge in this product
is defined as the outer boundary of ice having at least 30 percent ice
concentration. Ice edge positions come from ship logbooks, diaries, and
other sources, in addition to more recent satellite data products.
Individual ice edge positions (1750-2002), in addition to monthly means
(1967-2002) and multi-decadal means (1870-2002) are offered. Data are
available as ASCII text, browse images, and shapefiles (GIS format).
This long record sheds light on ice edge variability through regional
shifts in climate.
NOAA@NSIDC also announces a new GeoRSS feed that offers information
about new scientific products, updates to present data products, and
significant news from the NOAA@NSIDC program. To access the GeoRSS feed,
