The Bjerknes Centre for Climate Research (BCCR) at the University of
Bergen in Bergen, Norway announces a four-year PhD research position in
the field of atmospheric climate.

The main tasks for the successful candidate will be to explore
mechanisms that are important for the variability in north Atlantic
cyclone tracks and intensity and to investigate how a warmer climate may
influence cyclone development. The candidate will work on analysis of
atmospheric reanalysis and global climate model data to analyze the
development of extreme storms in the north Atlantic region. Special
emphasis will be on trying to separate the different mechanisms that may
spin up the cyclones and identifying how they may change in a warmer
climate.

BCCR is the largest climate research group in Norway and has
approximately 70 researchers and postgraduate students and 20 PhDs. The
research at the center is characterized by an international environment
and has researchers from 17 countries. Researchers are recruited mainly
from meteorology, oceanography, geology, physics, and mathematics.

Applicants must hold a Master's degree or equivalent in meteorology or
related fields or have submitted their Master's thesis for assessment by
the application deadline. To apply, please submit a complete overview of
education and professional activities (CV), copies of diplomas (Bachelor
and Master's) and transcripts, and scholarly works including a list of
publications. Applications marked 07/8207 should be submitted by Sunday,
