The National Science Foundation is accepting applications for the
position of Antarctic Research Support Manager.

This position is located in the Office of the Director/Office of Polar
Programs and is responsible for facilitating research of the Antarctic
and Arctic Regions conducted at institutions or in a polar region across
several scientific disciplines including Earth sciences, astrophysics,
medical science, social sciences, and geographical investigations.
Position activities promote international partnerships in support of
U.S. interests ranging across scientific research, economic development,
environmental protection, and human impact where applications often have
global impact. The International Polar Year, which will extend from
March 2007 through March 2009, is envisioned as an intense scientific
campaign to explore new frontiers in polar science, improve our
understanding of the critical role of the polar regions in global
processes, and educate students, teachers, and the public about the
polar regions and their importance to the global system.

The Antarctic Research Support Manager is responsible for the planning,
development, and coordination of operational support plans for over one
hundred scientific projects that take place annually on the continent of
Antarctica. The selected candidate is also responsible for assisting in
the development of long-range and multilateral plans to support future
scientific projects. As the Antarctic Infrastructure and Logistic
Division (AIL) specialist for all Antarctic logistics support, the
incumbent coordinates these activities with scientific program officers
in the Office of Polar Programs (OPP) and with other managers in AIL,
principal investigators, support contractors, other federal science
agencies, and the Department of Defense.

Applicants must possess a PhD or equivalent experience in engineering,
biology, physical science, geology, geophysics, atmospheric physics, or
oceanography. In addition, six or more years of successful research,
research administration, and/or managerial experience pertinent to the
program is required.
