The workshop "Arctic Coastal Zones at Risk" will be held on 1-3 October
2007, at the Polar Environmental Centre in Tromso, Norway. The workshop
is sponsored by the International Arctic Science Committee, Arctic
Monitoring and Assessment Programme, the Land-Ocean Interactions in the
Coastal Zone research project, International Permafrost Association, and
the International Human Dimensions Programme on Global Environmental
Change.
The workshop will focus on the response of arctic geophysical and
ecosystem features to effects of global warming, i.e., the decreasing
sea ice cover, the destabilization of permafrost systems, and increased
exposure of coastal regions to storms, and the reactions of human
societies to these changes in the Arctic. Working groups will address
physical, biological-ecological, and socio-economic perspectives.
