The Seventh International Symposium on Permafrost Engineering will be
held in September 2007 in Chita, Russia.
Topics include:
- Permafrost engineering: problems and future development;
- Transportation in permafrost areas;
- Cryogenic processes: kinetics, mechanics, physico-chemical aspects,
prediction, and control;
- Properties of frozen soils, model development, and their applications;
and
- Climatic, environmental, and cryospheric changes.
Associated meetings held in conjunction with the symposium include:
- Workshop on the Thermal State of Permafrost in Arctic and Subarctic
Areas devoted to the initiation of the International Polar Year; and
- Round table discussion on Geocryological Research for Mining.
Abstracts for oral and poster sessions are being accepted until
Thursday, 1 March 2007. For registration and abstract submission

The symposium will be conducted in Russian and English and is sponsored
by the International Permafrost Association; Scientific Council on Earth
Cryology, Russian Academy of Sciences; Russian Foundation for Basic
Research; Chinese Academy of Sciences; Siberian Branch of Russian
Academy of Sciences (SB RAS); Permafrost Institute SB RAS; Institute of
Natural Resources, Ecology, and Cryology SB RAS; Government of the Chita
Province; and Chita State University.
