Over the previous years, the Modeling and Data Assimilation group at the
Nansen Center has developed the TOPAZ ocean forecasting system for the
Atlantic and Arctic Oceans. The Nansen Center has established the
Mohn-Sverdrup Center for Global Ocean Studies and Operational
Oceanography, which is privately funded for five years by an endowment
from Trond Mohn, c/o Frank Mohn AS, Bergen. Activities at the center
will focus on the further development, implementation, and validation of
modules in the TOPAZ system, and implementations of the system to other
regions of the world oceans.
The Mohn-Sverdrup center seeks a post-doc/scientist for two years to
work on model developments and data assimilation. The post-doc will
implement model improvements (numerical schemes, fluxes), validate and
interpret the output of ocean models. He/she will use data assimilation
and evaluate the model performance in idealized and realistic
implementations. The post-doc will work in a dynamic team of 15 and will
participate in collaborative work with both international and Norwegian
partners.
Candidates should rate their knowledge in the following areas:
- oceanography
- numerical ocean modelling,
- data assimilation,
- applied mathematics,
- numerical analysis,
- numerical programming, and
- Fortran 90.
