Western Regional Panel on Aquatic Nuisance Species

The Western Regional Panel is a 48-member partnership of federal and
state agencies, universities, tribes, non-profit organizations, industry
representatives, and members from Canada which coordinates activities
and provides policy for the prevention, control, and management of
aquatic invasive species in the West.

The Western Regional Panel on Aquatic Nuisance Species will have their
annual meeting in Anchorage at the Sheraton hotel downtown on 8-9
September 2004 with a field trip on the morning of 10 September. The
meetings will take place from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. both days and the
field trip will be concluded at 1:00 p.m.

Alaska and Canadian issues will be addressed, such as Atlantic salmon
and EEZ aquaculture, climate change opening up new routes and pathways
for ANS, and challenges with ballast water in the north. Regional issues
will include presentations on New Zealand mud snails and their
movements/pathways, zebra mussels in Kansas and the Missouri River, and
a new Sea Grant partnership outreach project to target aquarium
hobbyists. Participants will also hear about this years WRP projects and
crafting the work plan for 2005.
