The Last Interglacial (PP10)
The last interglacial, defined by marine isotope stage 5e, is an
interval when at least some of the Earth was warmer than present. The
proxy record suggests a substantially warmer climate in the Arctic and
high northern latitudes with a rapid and early warming of terrestrial
sites and melting of all Arctic glaciers except Greenland, which was
greatly diminished. Sea level records suggest that unlike the Holocene,
deglaciation preceded the summer insolation peak. Peak warmth of the
last interglacial offers one view of Earth warmer than present.
We encourage contributions dealing with proxy evidence of the climate of
the last interglacial for all regions of the Earth, as well as the
abrupt climate change from stage 6 to 5e. We equally encourage
submissions dealing with theoretical and modeling studies aiming to
understand the forcings and feedbacks describing the climate system of
the last interglacial and its preceding deglaciation.
Deadline for electronic online abstract submissions is 4 September 2003,
1400 UT.
