Dear Colleagues,
The Institute of Lake Study of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Limnology
Institute of Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences, M. K.
Ammosov Yakutsk State University, Academy of Sciences of Sakha Republic,
Yakutsk Center of Science of Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of
Sciences, Yakutsk International Center of Northern Territories Development
of Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Yakutian Branch of
the Russian Geographic Society inform you of the International conference
called "The Lakes of Cold Regions" that will take place on June 21-26, 2000
in Yakutsk.
Aims and goals of the conference: to determine the strategy of
eco-limnological, paleogeographical, resource study and resource usage in
the Norhern lakes:
- analysis and assessment of actual results of the scientific lake
research, lake landscape and lake resources - discussion of theoretical and methodological developments
- discussion of applied sciences works
- making suggestions on practical usage of lake resources and aquaculture
creation in lake-like reservoirs of cryolithozone.
Place and Date of the Conference
Yakutsk, Sakha Republic (Yakutia), Russia; June 21-26, 2000.
Excursion program including Yakutsk and its suburbs sightseeing, the Lena
river cruise, visit to the native traditional festival Ysyakh is available
for the Conference participants.
Registration
To take part in the Conference you must fill out a registration form and
send it in, possibly in the electronic form, to the Organizing committee
before April 1, 2000.
Working languages are Russian and English with the simultaneous translation
of reports and speeches.
Making Reports and Publications
The Organizing committee requires papers to be submitted before April 1,
2000 which will be published in the Proceedings of the Conference. The
topics are as follows:
- Eco-limnological research of cold regions lakes.
- Paleogeographic, paleolymnologic and paleoecologic research of cryogenic
landscapes. - Problems of lake resource study and issues of lake protection in cold
regions.
Other topics in the scope of Conference are also welcomed.
Requirements for the Papers
The paper should not exceed 12 typed pages using 1.5 pt line spacing on a
standard A4 sheet.
The paper may be either in Russian or in English. If in Russian, English
translation of the title and the abstract must be included. If in English,
Russian translation of the title and the abstract must be included.
The paper should be submitted in the electronic form on a disk or via email
and should include a printed out version as well.

Additional Information
Yakutsk is the capital of the Sakha Republic (Yakutia). Yakutia is the
largest subject of the Russian Federation; it is located in the North-East
of Russia. The city population is about 200 thousand people. Yakutsk is a
multifunctional, cultural and scientific center.
M.K. Ammosov Yakutsk State University has a more than sixty-year history.
There are more than ten thousand students studying at eight departments and
four institutes of the University.
The Conference will take place in the Departments of Natural Sciences
Building.
One can fly to Yakutsk on an airplane. The one way ticket price from Moscow
is $250 (as of February 1, 2000). The conference participants will be
accommodated in a downtown hotel. The approximate accommodation fare is as
follows: single room - from $10, double room - from $7.
Weather. In the second half of June Yakutsk will have a warm and sunny
weather. It will be the White Nights period. The average temperature during
the day is +18-20 degrees Celsius, and at night it's +14-18 degrees
Celsius. Some short-term rains are possible.
