ASSOCIATE PROGRAM DIRECTOR
ARCTIC SYSTEM SCIENCE PROGRAM
NATIONAL SCIENCE FOUNDATION
NSF's Office of Polar Programs is seeking qualified applicants for the
position of Associate Program Director in the Arctic System Science
Program. This position will be filled under the Intergovernmental
Personnel Act (IPA) in summer 1998. IPA applicants must be permanent,
career employees of their current employer for at least 90 days prior
to entering into a mobility assignment agreement with a federal
agency. Duration of the assignment is 1 year, although it may be
extended for a second year. Reimbursement of salary and other related
costs are negotiated between NSF and the individual's institution.
The Associate Program Director will have primary responsibilities
which involve proposal evaluation, project development and support,
program planning, and related administrative duties.
Applicants must have a Ph.D. or equivalent experience in one or more
of the following areas of the biosciences: biological oceanography,
terrestrial or marine ecology, or marine biochemistry and four years
of successful research experience (especially field programs) beyond
the Ph.D. is required. The position requires an understanding of
polar processes in the Arctic and global change. Interest in applying
natural/physical science results to problems of societal relevance in
the Arctic is very desirable.
