Acting Director, OPP Announcement

Dr. Neal Lane, NSF Director, announced on August 7 that Dr. John Hunt
will serve as Acting Director, Office of Polar Programs effective
September 8, 1997.

Dr. Hunt currently serves as Acting Assistant Director for the
Mathematical and Physical Sciences Directorate in NSF, and has held
positions of Program Director, Division Executive Officer, and
Directorate Executive Officer. Dr. Hunt came to NSF from Catholic
University, where he held an appointment as Professor of Chemistry
since 1962.

The announcement did not state how long Dr. Hunt will serve as Acting
Director.
