U.S.-Canada Northern Oil and Gas Research Forum
13-15 November 2012
Anchorage, Alaska

Organizers of the U.S.-Canada Northern Oil and Gas Research Forum
announce a call for abstracts. The conference will be held 13-15
November 2012 at the Hilton Hotel in Anchorage, Alaska.

The Northern Oil and Gas Research Forum is a biannual event with
representation from government, industry, academia, Aboriginal groups,
and northerners from both Canada and the United States. The forum
provides an opportunity for United States and Canadian decision makers,
regulators, Aboriginals, industry members, non-governmental
organizations and scientists to discuss current scientific research and
future directions for northern oil and gas activities. The focus is on
technical, scientific, and engineering research that can be applied to
support management and regulatory processes related to oil and gas
exploration and development in the North.

The forum is hosted by the North Slope Science Initiative and the U.S.
Department of the Interior, in partnership with counterparts in Canada
and the United States. It will showcase the value of Northern scientific
research in support of sound decision-making for oil and gas management.

Abstract submission deadline: Monday, 17 September 2012.

Conference Update
World Snow Forum
17-20 January 2013
Novosibirsk, Russia

The World Snow Forum will be held 17-20 January 2013 in Novosibirsk,
Russia. The website has been updated to include considerable
information, available at: http://www.worldsnowforum.org/en/.

The conference will gather representatives from international
organizations, global experts on snow and wintertime problems, and
arctic city mayors and national authorities to discuss environmental
problems and city management issues specifically relevant to arctic
regions. It will raise issues of global geopolitical and environmental
problems, and discuss the development and preservation of northern
territories. The conference will be organized into three sessions:

- Snow and city management
- Snow and ecology
- Snow and sport

The World Snow Forum will also include an extensive cultural program
featuring ice and snow sculpture, dance, and various competitions.

of Ships and Structures in Ice

The Society of Naval Architects and Marine Engineers (SNAME) announce
"ICETECH 2012: International Conference and Exhibition on Performance of
Ships and Structures in Ice," to be held 17-20 September 2012 in Banff,
Alberta, Canada.

The theme of the conference is "Performance of Ships and Structures in
Ice." It will also include the topics such as global warming,
geopolitics, and future expectations for the Arctic through
participation of relevant organizations and experts. There will be an
exhibition in conjunction with the conference. A social and tour program
for accompanying persons will be available.
