The National Science Foundation (NSF) Office of Polar Programs (OPP)
seeks candidates for two professional positions, Facilities Engineering
Projects Manager and Facilities Construction and Maintenance Manager, to
work within the Division of Antarctic Infrastructure and Logistics
(AIL). Both positions are full-time, permanent, and based in Arlington,
Virginia.

The mission of AIL is to provide infrastructure, logistics, and
operational support for the United States' year round presence in
Antarctica including maintenance and operation of three year round
research stations, extensive laboratory and computing capabilities for
research, icebreaking research ships, and air transport to support the
U.S. research mission.

The Facilities Engineering Project Manager has overall responsibility
for the management of master planning, design, and major construction
planning and prioritization for the U.S. Antarctica Program (USAP). The
Facilities Construction and Maintenance Manager has overall
responsibility for minor facilities' project management and facilities'
maintenance at USAP. Both positions have responsibility for working
closely with other AIL managements responsible for logistics,
operations, science support, and information technology. Both General
Engineers will be responsible for periodically deploying to Antarctica
to perform oversight responsibilities and may also serve as the National
Science Foundation Representation, Antarctica (NSFREP).

Applicants must possess a PhD or equivalent experience in civil,
mechanical, structural, electrical, or electronics engineering, or a
related field. Applicants must have at least six years of experience
managing and overseeing the planning and execution of complex facilities
projects. A Professional Engineer (PE) license and experience in
facilities project/program management is highly desirable.

ArcticNet, a Network of Centres of Excellence of Canada, seeks to fill
two professional positions in mooring instrumentation and ocean
instrumentation. Both positions are open until filled and are based out
of Quebec City, Canada.

ArcticNet brings together scientists and managers in natural, human
health, and social sciences with their partners from Inuit
organizations, northern communities, federal and provincial agencies,
and the private sector to study the impacts and opportunities of climate
change and modernization in the coastal Canadian Arctic.

The research icebreaker CCGS Amundsen is ArcticNet's primary research
platform for sampling the coastal Canadian Arctic. The Amundsen conducts
state-of-the-art research on sea ice dynamics, water chemistry and
physics, optics, bathymetry, geology, biology, and atmosphere-ocean
exchange. An important component of ArcticNet's research is the
Long-Term Oceanographic Observatories (LTOO) program that deploys
sub-surface oceanographic moorings in strategic locations of the
Canadian Arctic Ocean.

Based on the science program developed by ArcticNet Researchers both the
mooring instrumentation and ocean instrumentation professional positions
work under the supervision of the ArcticNet ship-based Research
Coordinator.

  1. British Antarctic Survey seeks PhD Student
    Modeling Ocean Contribution to Climate Change on
    the Antarctic Peninsula

The British Antarctic Survey in partnership with Cardiff University
seeks a PhD student for a project modeling ocean contribution to climate
change on the Antarctic Peninsula. Candidates must satisfy United
Kingdom residency conditions to be eligible for the full studentship.
The studentship will last three and one half years starting in October
2013 and is located in Cambridge, United Kingdom.

The studentship is based in the Polar Oceans program at the British
Antarctic Survey. The doctorate will be awarded by Cardiff University
with the co-supervisor in the School of Earth and Ocean Sciences
providing expertise on climate changes of the Antarctic Peninsula over
the Holocene.

This position is part of a project aimed to complement observations by
creating a detailed computer model of ocean, sea ice, and glacial ice to
understand key processes in the region. The successful candidate will be
responsible for creating a regional model using the latest datasets of
seabed topography, atmospheric forcing, and ocean currents. The model
will allow examination of critical processes including the effect of sea
ice retreat on ocean mixing and atmospheric forcing, increased supply of
warm water from the Southern Ocean, and the origin and fate of increased
freshwater input.

Applicants should hold or expect to gain an upper-second class
undergraduate degree in physics, mathematics, oceanography, meteorology,
or any other numerate subject. No Antarctic fieldwork is required.
Opportunities to join a research cruise to the Southern Ocean may arise
during the project.

Asiaq, Greenland Survey seeks a project manager for the ClimateBasis
program. The position will be based in Nuuk, Greenland.

ClimateBasis is a program within the interdisciplinary research projects
Nuuk Basic and Zackenberg Basic (http://www.g-e-m.dk). The goal of these
programs is to provide knowledge about the short and long term
variations in the low and high arctic ecosystems. The open position is
within the group for Hydrology, Climate and Environment, which deals
with hydrology and climate in collaboration with technicians at Asiaq's
workshop.

The successful candidate will ensure continuity of ClimateBasis' climate
and hydrology monitoring, write articles for international papers, and
communicate project results. The position will also take part in
developing Asiaq's research profile.

Applicants should come from the fields of geography, physics,
engineering, or equivalent. A PhD in arctic climatology or hydrology is
preferred. Experience with project management, research applications,
and public outreach would be an advantage. Applications should include a
