A summer school on 'Land Hydrology and Cryosphere of the Arctic and
Northern Eurasia in the Changing Climate' will be held 29 June - 5 July
2014 in Zelenogorsk, Leningrad Region, Russia. It is organized by the
Nansen Environmental and Remote Sensing Centre and funded by the
European-Russian Center for Cooperation in the Arctic and Sub-Arctic
(EuRuCAS).
The goal of the EuRuCAS Summer School is to involve the young generation
of researchers in EU-Russia scientific cooperation in the field of
Arctic and sub-Arctic environmental and climate science. Participants
will receive world-class instruction and experience in land hydrology,
cryosphere, and climate of the Arctic and Northern Eurasia and will have
opportunity to share their own scientific results. The program will
include lectures by leading scientists in each of the following topics:
- Ongoing climate change in the Arctic and sub-Arctic
- Hydrological cycle of the Arctic and Northern Eurasia in the
warming climate
- Glaciers and their changes due to warming
- Ice seasons and ecology in lakes and rivers in a changing climate
- Permafrost and terrestrial ecosystems in the Arctic and Northern
Eurasia
- Greenhouse gases in Northern Eurasia linked to permafrost and
hydrology
Participation is limited to around 25 PhD students with related
backgrounds, and approximately half of the places are reserved for
EuRuCAS partners. The rest of the participants will be selected on
competitive basis. All costs of the successful applicants will be
covered by the school. The school will be conducted in English.
Applications must include a short curriculum vitae including research
interests and relevant experiences (max 2 pages) and an abstract (max
300 words). Applications should be emailed to the organizers

2014.'
