The Climate Impacts Research Center at Umea University seeks applicants
for two postdoctoral positions in the ecology, biogeochemistry, and
microbial soil ecology of permafrost ecosystems. Both positions are
funded for two years and are based in Abisko, Sweden.

The postdoctoral positions, part of the larger permafrost research
project, will investigate how climate and ecosystem processes control
carbon dynamics in permafrost soils. The project will address the
uncertainties that exist about the impacts of climate change on the
world's stock of soil organic carbon, especially the large amounts
stored in permafrost soils There will be considerable freedom to
collaborate and to develop the project to reflect the expertise and
research interests of the successful candidates.

Eligible candidates will have completed a PhD in ecology,
biogeochemistry, or soil microbial ecology. Demonstrated experience with
isotope techniques and fieldwork; knowledge of the interactions between
plants, soil animals, or microbes; and soil carbon dynamics in
arctic/permafrost ecosystems are desired.

The Arctic Research Center in the Korea Polar Research Institute (KOPRI)
seeks candidates for an environmental ecology research position within
the Circum-Arctic Permafrost Environment Change Monitoring (CAPEC)
project. The position is permanent and based in Incheon, Korea.

Through the CAPEC project, the Arctic Research Center has established
sites to study environmental changes in the terrestrial permafrost
region and develop state-of-the-art observation techniques. Field
exploration is conducted at Ny-Alesund, Svalbard, Norway; Council,
Alaska; and Cambridge Bay, Canada.

The successful candidate position will have a PhD in environmental
ecology and expertise in the ecological studies of interactions between
organisms and environmental factors, biodiversity, and biogeochemical
cycling.

The Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory (LDEO) at Columbia University seeks
candidates for postdoctoral fellowships in Earth, environmental, and
ocean sciences. The fellowships are funded for 24 months and are based
in Palisades, New York.

Researchers at LDEO lead research in the fields of solid Earth dynamics;
ocean, atmospheric and climate systems; cryospheric dynamics;
paleoclimate, and biogeoscience.

The principal selection criteria for Fellows are scientific excellence
and a clearly expressed plan to investigate problems at the forefront of
Earth sciences. Applications from all fields are welcomed.
