The Study of Environmental Arctic Change (SEARCH) requests input on a
draft position paper on issues related to the design and implementation
of an integrated Arctic Observing Network (AON).
The four-page position paper was developed by Craig Lee with input from
the Observing Change Panel (OCP) and the SEARCH Science Steering
Committee (SSC). The paper represents a synthesis of discussions within
SEARCH over the last year and builds on past SEARCH-AON community events
and workshops (see: http://www.arcus.org/search-program/aon) as well as
discussions catalyzed by the NSF webinar series on Long Term Observing
Management, the recordings for which are available at:
https://www.arctichub.net/groups/longtermobservingmgt/webinar_recordings.
Key issues addressed in the paper include:
- AON Governance
- Network integration
- Sustained funding for AON
The draft document is available on the SEARCH website at:
(http://www.arcus.org/search-program/aon) and is also posted as a
resource on ArcticHub (https://www.arctichub.net/resources/169).
The research community and other stakeholders are invited to send
comments to: aon_input [at] arcus.org. The comments provided will guide
revisions for the final document that will be circulated and provided to
NSF and other relevant agencies and organizations.
