10th Antarctic Meteorological Observing, Modeling, and Forecasting
17-19 June 2015
Cambridge, United Kingdom
The British Antarctic Survey, in cooperation with the Standing
Scientific Group on Physical Sciences (part of the Scientific Committee
on Antarctic Research), announce an invitation to the attend and
participate in the 10th Antarctic Meteorological Observing, Modeling,
and Forecasting Workshop (AMOMFW). The event will be held 17-19 June
2015 at the Scott Polar Research Institute in Cambridge, United Kingdom.
This workshop brings together those with research and
operational/logistical interests in Antarctic meteorology and
forecasting and related disciplines. As in the past, the annual
activities and status of the observing (e.g. Automatic Weather Stations)
and modeling (Antarctic Mesoscale Prediction System) efforts will be
addressed, and feedback and results from their user communities will be
solicited. More broadly, this workshop also is a forum for current
results and ideas in Antarctic meteorology, numerical weather
prediction, and weather forecasting, from contributors around the world.
There will be discussions on the relationships among international
efforts and Antarctic forecasting, logistical support, and science.
Organizers welcome papers and posters on these topics.

- Early Bird Registration Deadline
Arctic Encounter Symposium 2015
30-31 January 2015
Seattle, Washington
Organizers announce that the early bird registration for the second
annual Arctic Encounter Symposium ends Friday, 16 January 2015. The
symposium, entitled "Charting a Path to U.S. Leadership in the Far
North," will be held 30-31 January 2015 in Seattle, Washington.
This event will challenge participants to tackle the shared interests
and concerns of the United States and the global community as we look
north to the last emerging frontier--the Arctic. Leading experts, CEOs,
and thought leaders from the science, technology, maritime, and energy
sectors will gather to challenge the status quo dialogue, critically
address challenges to realizing the Arctic's full potential, and
collaborate on solutions. Participants will include key industry
leaders, policy makers, and regional stakeholders.
This year's symposium will focus on the role of the U.S. as an Arctic
nation and the challenges it will confront in its upcoming chairmanship
of the Arctic Council, including: climate change, natural resources,
investment opportunities, and international relations. The goal of the
2015 Arctic Encounter is to facilitate a creative environment for the
development of a proactive agenda, short and long-term domestic and
international priorities, and a strategic execution plan.
The two-day program includes complimentary continental breakfast,
coffee, and keynote luncheons on both Friday and Saturday. Participants
will enjoy a networking reception and seated dinner at the Museum of
History and Industry (MOHAI) at Lake Union on the evening of Friday,
January 30. A closing reception will take place at the conclusion of the
program on Saturday, January 31.

6th International Conference on Polar and Alpine Microbiology
6 -10 September 2015
Ceske Budejovice, Czech Republic
Organizers of the 6th International Conference on Polar and Alpine
Microbiology announce a call for early registration and abstract
submission. The conference will be held 6-10 September 2015 in Ceske
Budejovice, Czech Republic.
This meeting will be a continuation of the highly successful meetings
previously held in Rovaniemi 2004 (Finland), Innsbruck 2006 (Austria),
Banff 2008 (Canada), Ljubljana 2011 (Slovenia), and Big Sky 2013 (USA).
The conference will bring together the scientific community for
discourse on the latest in all aspects of cold-living microorganisms and
their role in polar and alpine environments. The 2015 conference will
again provide an opportunity to share ideas and build research
collaborations addressing the latest developments in microbiology in
polar and alpine habitats.
Abstract submission and early registration deadline:
Sunday, 1 February 2015.

Numerical Models for Climate Studies and Forecasting at High Latitudes
26th General Assembly of the IUGG
22 June - 2 July 2015
Prague, Czech Republic
Organizers of session M04, entitled "Numerical Models for Climate
Studies and Forecasting at High Latitudes," announce a call for
abstracts. This session will be held within the International
Association of Meteorology and Atmospheric Sciences (IAMAS) Symposium at
the 26th General Assembly of the International Union of Geodesy and
Geophysics (IUGG), scheduled for 22 June - 2 July 2015 in Prague, Czech
Republic.
Over the last decade there has been an increasing focus on polar weather
and climate modelling. However, at high latitudes there are processes
that are often poorly represented, such as atmospheric boundary layers,
cloud physics, sea ice dynamics and thermodynamics, and snow processes.
Often this is due to a lack of observations of the processes being
modelled. This symposium will focus on the current state of
polar-focused weather, regional, and global climate modelling and
observational efforts aimed at improving polar models.
Abstracts for this and all other sessions must be submitted by:
Saturday, 31 January 2015.
