The Inuit Circumpolar Council-Alaska seeks to fill the position of
Cultural Sustainability Advisor. This is a permanent position that will
be based in Anchorage, Alaska

The successful candidate will work to implement organizational
objectives and engage in activities related to sustaining Inuit culture
and society, promoting adaptation strategies for sustainable Inuit
communities, and increasing an understanding of the human dimension
within the Arctic. A sample of position duties includes:

- Develop and work with leadership to implement a plan for
meaningful engagement in community sustainability and adaptation
activities in the Arctic Council and other forums of interest to
Alaskan Inuit.
- Attend Sustainable Development Working Group (SDWG) meetings and
advise organization's leadership on activities on a regular basis.
- Organize efforts to increase the general public's understanding of
the human dimension in the Arctic, including fundraising and
managing related projects.
- Assist in planning and organizing for the Inuit Wildlife Summit,
including fundraising efforts.
- Work with the Executive Director to develop funding plan to
achieve program objectives and take the lead in researching and
writing grants to carry out objectives.

Applicants should have a Cachelor's degree and/or a minimum of 5 years'
related experience; a Master's degree is preferred. Program/project
management, including monitoring implementation of project objectives
and budgets is required. Experience working within the Arctic Council or
other similar international forums, as well as experience with Inuit or
Alaska Native non-profit organizations is preferred.

  1. USGS Alaska Science Center seeks Research Manager
    Marine Ecology

The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) Alaska Science Center is seeking
applicants for a Supervisory Fish and Wildlife Biologist to lead its
Marine Ecology Research Program as the Chief of the Marine and
Freshwater Ecosystems Office. This permanent position will be based in
Anchorage, Alaska.

The incumbent will supervise research grade scientists (including
wildlife biologists, ecologists, and statisticians) who lead research
programs on polar bears, walruses, nearshore ecosystems, seabirds and
forage fish, habitat dynamics, biometrics and quantitative ecology. The
incumbent also co-leads the USGS Changing Arctic Ecosystems Initiative
and other research within the Ecosystems Mission Area of USGS. Key
duties include review and approval of science products under the USGS
Fundamental Science Practices policy; management of personnel and
budgets; internal and external communications of key findings; and
strategic science leadership.

Candidates should have an MSc or PhD in biological sciences, preferably
with a marine focus. The position requires U.S. citizenship. Prior
supervisory experience is desired.

  1. University of Lapland seeks Arctic Centre Director

The University of Lapland seeks to fill the position of Research
Professor and Director of the Arctic Centre. This position will be based
in Rovaniemi, Finland. The Director of the Arctic Centre duties are for
a five-year period; the professorship can be either a five-year term or
permanent position.

The successful candidate for the position of Research Professor of
Arctic Research will participate actively in research and development
project activities that supports the strategy of the University of
Lapland and the Arctic Centre. The holder of the position will also
contribute to acquiring external research funding. The research
professorship will include the duties of Director of Arctic Centre for
the period 1 November 2015 through 31 October 2020. The Director of the
Arctic Centre is responsible for leading and developing the Arctic
Centre, in particular its research activities.

The appointee will not be required to teach during the five-year term
when he/she is leading the Arctic Centre. Successfully discharging the
duties of the position and contributing to effective work in the Arctic
Centre require that the appointee be committed to the work of the Arctic
Centre and more widely to the work of the scientific and artistic
community at the University of Lapland.

There are no specific qualifications required for the position. It is
assumed that the successful candidate will have at least the competence
equivalent to that of a professor. The position will be filled through

  1. CRREL seeks Research Physical Scientist
    Geophysics, Ecology, Biogeochemistry, and/or Hydrology
    Fairbanks, Alaska

The Alaska Projects Office at the Cold Regions Research and Engineering
Laboratory (CRREL), U.S. Army Corps of Engineers seeks to hire a
Research Physical Scientist in the field(s) of geophysics, ecology,
biogeochemistry, and/or hydrology. This is a permanent, full-time
position that will be based in Fairbanks, Alaska.

The successful candidate will specialize in cold regions environmental
characterization of permafrost and the seasonal snowpack at a variety of
spatial scales. The position will be responsible for conducting remote
field physical process measurements out Alaska and in other Arctic and
subarctic terrains in order to better understand interactions among
ecosystems, the cryosphere, the water cycle, and a changing climate in
the Arctic and subarctic. It will also support basic and applied
research focused on Department of Defense installations and research
sites throughout Alaska; be responsible for obtaining internal and
external funding by leading and co-leading proposals; and present
research results in peer reviewed journals, project reports, and through
participation in project meetings and at international research
symposia.
