- Call for Papers
Arctic Frontiers Science 2016
24-29 January 2016
Tromso, Norway
Organizers of the 10th Arctic Frontiers conference announce a call for
papers. The meeting will be held in Tromso, Norway on 24-29 January
2016. The title for the 2016 conference is 'Industry and Environment'
and it will address three main themes:
- Environmental footprints
- Arctic stewardship
- Technology needs
The Arctic is a global crossroad between commercial and environmental
interests. The region holds substantial natural resources and many
actors are investigating ways to utilize these for economic gain. Others
view the Arctic as a particularly pristine and vulnerable environment
and highlight the need to limit industrial development.
Arctic Frontiers 2016 will discuss the balance between resource
utilization and preservation, and between industrial and environmental
interests in the Arctic. Envisioning a well-planned, well-governed, and
sustainable development in the Arctic, how can improved Arctic
stewardship help balance environmental concerns with industrial
expansion? How can the environmental footprints from future business
activities be minimized? And last but not least what role will existing
and emerging technologies play in making industrial development
profitable and environmentally friendly, securing a sustainable growth
scenario for Arctic communities?
The Arctic Frontiers conference is a central arena for discussions of
Arctic issues. The conference brings together representatives from
science, politics, and NGOs to share perspectives on how upcoming
challenges in the Arctic may be addressed to ensure sustainable
development. Arctic Frontiers is composed of three sections: Arctic
Frontiers Policy, Arctic Frontiers Science and Arctic Frontiers Business.
Paper submission deadline: 21 September 2015

ESA-CliC Earth Observation and Cryosphere Science 2016
10-13 May 2016
Prague, Czech Republic
Organizers announce that the ESA-CliC Earth Observation and Cryosphere
Science 2016 meeting will be held 10-13 May 2016 in Prague, Czech
Republic.
Four year ago ESA, the Climate and Cryosphere (CliC) Project of the WCRP
and EGU, organized the first EO and Cryosphere Science Conference in
ESRIN. The 2016 meeting will be designed to include wide discussion and
networking forums for the cryosphere, climate, hydrology, modeling and
EO communities to review the latest advances in the use of EO for
cryosphere science and discuss the main scientific opportunities and
research challenges for the future.
The purpose of this topical conference is:
- To assess recent progress in the full range of cryosphere relevant
EO-based observations and techniques;
- To review the major scientific advances in cryosphere science;
- To discuss the challenges and opportunities in cryosphere science
offered by the new generation of EO satellites as well as the major
observational gaps for the coming decades;
- To consolidate a scientific roadmap outlining the main priorities
and challenges for the cryosphere community in terms of novel
observations, enhanced EO-based products and techniques and
innovative scientific results.
Organizers invite the Arctic community to submit abstracts using the
dedicated link on the ESA Living Planet Symposium Website:
http://lps16.esa.int/page_Abstracts.php. Make sure to select
'Cryosphere' as the abstract theme during the submission process.
Abstract submission deadline: 16 October 2015
