ARCUS
PolarTREC--a program of the Arctic Research Consortium of the U.S.
(ARCUS)--is a professional development program for educators that pairs
teachers with researchers to improve science education through polar
research experiences. Each year, participants create products for
dissemination and improve the existing products to best suit the needs
of a growing audience. The following products are freely accessible for
non-commercial purposes to the scientific and education communities via
the PolarTREC website (http://www.polartrec.com).
Classroom and Community Lesson Plans
Each teacher creates lesson plans related to their expedition, which are
reviewed by the research team for scientific accuracy and adhere to
local and national science education standards. Users can access the
searchable lesson collection in the PolarTREC Learning Resources
Database: http://www.polartrec.com/resources/search.
Project Pages
Project pages are a collection of PolarTREC expeditions that are related
and/or share the same research project. Projects were created as a way
to show the depth and breadth of the research that is taking place in
the polar regions: http://www.polartrec.com/projects.
Expedition Reports
These reports succinctly summarize teachers' professional benefits of
the field expedition, a description of field activities, and a classroom
implementation plan. Reports are designed to target an audience of
funders, researchers, and future participants:
http://www.polartrec.com/resources/expedition-reports.
Product Pages
Beyond the products created by teachers and research teams, broader
scope products are a key contribution of program synthesis. Researchers,
program managers, project leaders, and funders have access to
evaluations, publications, presentations, and meeting/workshop
proceedings and results: http://www.polartrec.com/products.
All resources are freely accessible for non-commercial purposes via the
PolarTREC program. For questions, concerns, or proper crediting, please
email: info [at] polartrec.com.
