    UNOLS Arctic Icebreaker Coordinating Committee

The Arctic Icebreaker Coordinating Committee (AICC), a committee of the
University-National Oceanographic Laboratory System (UNOLS) seeks
nominations for several new members willing to serve the Arctic
scientific community in meeting these needs over a three-year term,
starting in the fall of 2015.

The AICC serves a liaison function by providing oversight and advice to
the National Science Foundation's (NSF) Division of Polar Sciences and
to the U.S. Coast Guard for the purpose of enhancing scientific
facilities and capabilities aboard their icebreaker fleet. The AICC
solicits, synthesizes, and presents the needs of the Arctic science
community to the Coast Guard and the NSF, fulfills an ombudsman role
when necessary, and facilitates the efficient and effective execution of
scientific research by U.S. icebreakers. The AICC also promotes new
technology for Arctic research and its utilization on icebreaker
facilities, and provides information to the scientific community to
facilitate organization of research projects.

Nominees should have expertise in chemical, physical, biological or
geological oceanography or meteorology; polar field experience,
particularly icebreaker experience; and a record of conducting Arctic
research. The disciplinary balance and expertise of the current
Committee membership and diversity of institutional representation are
additional considerations. Interested persons are invited to submit
their applications to the UNOLS Office Applicants need not be U.S.
citizens, but must be employed at an institution situated within the U.S.

cover letter describing the nominee's field experience, Arctic research
publication record, and expression of interest in the AICC's activities

    2016 Hydrographic Services Review Panel

NOAA is soliciting nominations for membership for the 2016 Hydrographic
Services Review Panel (HSRP), a Federal Advisory Committee.

The HSRP advises NOAA on operations and research issues related to
hydrographic surveying, nautical charts, tides and currents, geodetic
and geospatial data and measurements, coastal intelligence and
resilience, and emerging Arctic priorities.

Applicants should have expertise in marine navigation, port
administration, maritime shipping or other intermodal transportation
industries, cartography and geographic information systems, geodesy,
geospatial data, physical oceanography, coastal resource management,
including coastal resilience and emergency response, or other
science-related fields.

Application deadline: Monday, 10 August 2015.

    Southern Ocean Satellite Needs
    SOOS and CliC

The Southern Ocean Observing System (SOOS) and the Climate and the
Cryosphere Project (CliC) seek review and comments from members of the
Southern Ocean community on a summary report of a recent survey of Polar
remote sensing and satellite needs.

The survey aimed to canvas uses of remote sensing, define limitations
and recommendations for improvement of Southern Ocean remote sensing,
and in particular to articulate the satellite needs specific to the
Southern Ocean,

These survey responses have been complied in a summary report, which
organizers are now circulating to the entire Southern Ocean community
including both operational and research focused members. Sections of the
report include sea ice variables, atmospheric parameters,
terrestrial/cryospheric connections, marine microbes, ocean color,
marine biology, surface winds, and more.

All interested members of the Southern Ocean community (which overlaps
with much of the Arctic Ocean community) are encouraged to review
relevant sections and submit any comments. This process will help to
ensure that the content is complete and that the report's
recommendations are detailed, innovative, and accurate. The aim is that
this review will represent the Southern Ocean community's satellite data
needs for the coming decade. It is designed to stand as an important
strategy paper that provides the rationale and information required for
future strategic planning and investment.

Deadline for submitting comments: Friday, 31 July 2015.
