  1. NERSC seeks Senior Researcher
    Oceanography
    Bergen, Norway

The Nansen Environmental and Remote Sensing Center (NERSC) seeks a
senior researcher for a position in oceanography. This is a full-time
position for a duration of four years, and will be based in Bergen,
Norway.

NERSC is looking for a senior theoretical oceanographer to guide future
Arctic Ocean modeling developments. The successful applicant will work
on the official Arctic component of the Copernicus Marine Services
(http://marine.copernicus.eu) program. The position is fully supported
by both internal funds and the European Copernicus Marine Services for
an initial period of two years and will be continued in a permanent
position depending on performance and successful funding. The immediate
goals are to evaluate the present performance of the coupled ice-ocean
model and further develop HYCOM in connection to the novel sea ice and
ecosystem models being developed at NERSC.

The candidate should hold a topically-relevant PhD and a strong record
in theoretical oceanography. The knowledge and experience should be
self-assessed with respect to the four following topics (ranked on a
scale from 1 to 10): Arctic and Nordic Seas oceanography; research
applications of realistic ocean models (experience with HYCOM or other
isopycnal coordinate models would be advantageous); ocean-atmosphere
coupling processes in the Arctic Ocean; and development of ocean models.

Application deadline: 15 August 2015.

  1. Arctic University of Norway seeks Postdoctoral Candidate
    Biogeochemistry
    Tromso, Norway

The Arctic University of Norway (UiT) seeks a postdoctoral candidate in
the field of biogeochemistry. The position is for a duration of three
years, and will be based in Tromso, Norway.

The candidate will engage in seabed habitat and biological mapping of
marine methane seep areas, applying time series analysis in ocean floor
studies to investigate changes in biological communities and structures
related to methane release (advective) or diffusive background sites.
The work will lead to a more complete understanding of the distribution
of seabed features and associated composition, biomass, energy flow and
food web processes related to methane seep environments. The candidate
is expected to build a research program focused on the acquisition,
analysis, and interpretation of visual data from still image and video
retrieved from Arctic marine methane seep areas. The program will be
developed primarily in collaboration with benthic biologists and
geophysicists experts as well as other members of the CAGE
multi-disciplinary team. External national and international
collaborations will also be essential in order to establish a holistic
understanding of seabed habitat characteristics related to the natural
diversity of the Arctic seafloor biota and the transfer of methane to
the water column through food webs.

Application deadline: 31 August 2015.
