Organizers announce a call for registration and abstracts to the 1st
Central European Polar Meeting, which will convene 10-13 November 2015
in Vienna, Austria.

The meeting is jointly organized by the Committee on Polar Research of
the Polish Academy of Sciences; the Centre for Polar Ecology, Czech
Republic; and the Austrian Polar Research Institute in cooperation with
the National Committee for Global Change of the Austrian Academy of
Sciences. It is one of the first international activities of the newly
established Central European Polar Partnership, which aims at increasing
the visibility and coordinating polar research in and among the
participating countries.

Scientific sessions and keynote speakers:

Organizers announce a call for registration to The Alaskan Arctic: A
Summit on Shipping and Ports. Presented in partnership with the Arctic
Circle, this summit is hosted by Alice Rogoff, publisher of Alaska
Dispatch News, and Mead Treadwell, president of Pt. Capital along with
the state of Alaska and other partners. The summit will convene 23-25
August 2015 in Anchorage, Alaska.

Organizers of the 2016 Ocean Sciences Meeting are now accepting session
abstract submissions. The meeting will convene 21-26 February in New
Orleans, Louisiana.

Session Chairs Mary-Louise Timmermans (Yale University, USA) and Jeff
Carpenter (Helmholtz Zentrum Gesthacht, Institute of Coastal Research,
Germany) invite abstract submissions to:

Session ID 9311: Heat transport processes in the Arctic Ocean's
Atlantic and Pacific water layers

Session Description:
One of the most significant contemporary changes to occur in the Arctic Ocean
has been a warming of the Atlantic and Pacific water layers. This warming
impacts sea-ice cover only where the ocean heat is transported to the
surface. However, over much of the Arctic Ocean the strong halocline
stratification insulates the surface ocean and sea-ice cover from the
underlying Atlantic and Pacific waters. Therefore, in order to predict and
model Arctic sea-ice it is crucial to understand processes that are able to
flux this heat vertically to the ocean surface. A whole host of processes are
expected to play a role in this transport, such as double-diffusive
convection, lateral intrusions, wind and internal wave driven mixing, as well
as coastal upwelling and mesoscale eddies. This session invites submissions
that investigate the vertical and lateral transport of heat from the Atlantic
and Pacific layers. We invite studies that focus on the range of important
heat transport processes, and encourage studies that encompass observational,
theoretical and numerical approaches, to understand ocean heat transport in a
changing Arctic system.

    Remote Regions/Northern Development Sessions
    Western Regional Science Association Annual Meeting
    14-17 February 2016
    Hilton Waikoloa Village, Hawaii

The Western Regional Science Association announces a call for papers for
the Remote Regions/Northern Development sessions during their 55th
Annual Meeting, which will convene 14-17 February 2016 at the Hilton
Waikoloa Village on the Big Island of Hawaii.

General topics for the Remote Regions/Northern Development sessions
include the analysis and discussion of economic, political, and
social-cultural change in remote and sparsely settled regions. Examples
of specific topics include the consequences of new technology, the
effects of government expenditures, the conditions for success or
failure of development projects, relations between the subsistence and
market economies, regional benefits and costs of development, economic
integration and cultural preservation, community development, changing
social patterns, Native sovereignty and federalism, migration, and
institutional change and resource governance in remote regions. Papers
on any topic consistent with the general theme are welcomed.

Organizers also welcome the organization of special sessions and are
particularly interested in sessions that address a particular theme from
the perspective of a number of countries or regions. For information
