- NSF seeks Program Director
Marine Geology and Geophysics
Division of Ocean Sciences
Directorate for Geosciences
The National Science Foundation (NSF) seeks qualified candidates for the
position of Program Director in the Marine Geology and Geophysics (MGG)
Program in the Division of Ocean Sciences (OCE), Directorate for
Geosciences (GEO). The position is available as a permanent or rotator
position, and will be based in Arlington, Virginia.
The successful candidate will manage a portfolio of research in marine
geophysics, including research relating to: the structure and tectonic
evolution of the oceanic lithosphere and its associated volcanic,
magmatic, hydrothermal, and earthquake activity; the tectonics and
morphology of the seafloor and the geodynamic processes that create it;
and sub-seafloor fluid flow that controls the exchange of heat and
chemical species between seawater, abyssal ecosystems, and ocean crust.
The individual selected for this position will also oversee NSF-funded
marine geophysical infrastructure and data centers, coordinating with
the Division of Ocean Sciences facilities group to facilitate access to
marine seismic facilities (e.g., the Ocean Bottom Seismometer Instrument
Pool and 2D/3D seismic data acquisition platforms), as the Division of
Ocean Sciences continues to implement community recommendations (e.g.,
the National Academy of Sciences report "Sea Change: Decadal Survey of
Ocean Sciences 2015-2025").
Application deadline: Friday, 8 January 2016.

- NSF seeks Program Manager
Arctic Natural Sciences
Division of Polar Programs
Directorate for Geosciences
The National Science Foundation (NSF) seeks qualified candidates for the
position of Program Manager in the Arctic Natural Sciences Program in
the Division of Polar Programs (PLR) in the Directorate for Geosciences
(GEO). This full-time permanent position is based in Arlington, Virginia.
The Division of Polar Programs manages and initiates NSF funding for
basic research and its operational support in the Arctic and the
Antarctic. The funds are provided as NSF grants to institutions (mainly
U.S. universities), whose scientists perform the research at the
institutions or in a polar region, and as cooperative agreements or
contracts to support organizations including contractors and the U.S.
military.
The Arctic Natural Sciences Program supports disciplinary and
interdisciplinary research on Arctic processes and phenomena, with
particular emphasis on understanding the changing Arctic environment.
The Program encourages proposals that test hypotheses leading to new
understanding of the Arctic and the development of predictive tools.
Areas of special interest include marine and terrestrial ecosystems,
Arctic atmospheric and oceanic dynamics and climatology, Arctic
geological and glaciological processes, and the connectivity of Arctic
phenomena to global systems.
Application deadline: Tuesday, 26 January 2016.
