The University of Gothenburg is seeking a PhD student in atmospheric
science focusing on atmospheric particle phase transitions. This is a
full PhD position with a fixed-term of four years based in Gothenburg,
Sweden.
The position is connected to the Swedish Research Council project, "Ice
Nucleation in changing Nordic and Arctic environments." The project
addresses key questions in current atmospheric research and contributes
to an improved description of aerosol and cloud processes, which are
critical for understanding evolution of climate. A keen interest in
environmental science, and theoretical and experimental physical
chemistry is essential. Previous experience with Matlab, LabVIEW and/or
other data analysis is advantageous.

- Postdoctoral Researcher Postion Available

The University of Leeds announces recruitment for a postdoctoral
research position. This position is for a fixed term of four years. The
position is based in Leeds, United Kindgom.
The research position is part of the "Black and Bloom" project that
investigates the impact of microbial processes that darken and
accelerate the melting of the Greenland Ice Sheet.
The successful canidate will work on molecular level quantification of
allochthonous materials found on snow and ice on the Greenland Ice Sheet
using state-of-the-art microscopic, mass spectrometric, and spectroscopic
techniques. Over the four years of the post, several month long field
campaigns to Greenland as well as at least two, one-month to three-month
temporary postings to the German Research Centre for Geosciences (GFZ)
in Potsdam, Germany for detailed analyses will be a critical part of
this role.
The applicant should have a PhD and research experience in a relevant
area of geochemistry, with a strong track record in microscopy and
micro-spectroscopic characterizations of geomaterials, and documented
skills in state-of-the-art solid and aqueous chemical analytical
techniques. The applicant must be able to demonstrate a commitment to
publication of original results at an international level.

- Temporary Field Technician Positions Available

The National Ecological Observatory Network (NEON) announces a call for
applications for Temporary Field Technicians. The positions are full
time temporary for the 2016 summer field season, generally April-June
through September-October.
The Temporary Field Technician will perform a variety of scientific and
technical tasks including biological, seasonal, and periodic sampling
activities. Temporary field sampling is conducted with direction from
and assistance of others. The Temporary Field Technician will also
perform field and laboratory activities.
The Temporary Field Technician's primary work location is in Fairbanks,
Alaska. This position supports sites in the Taiga and Tundra Domains.
Taiga Domain candidate sites are located at the Caribou-Poker Creeks
Research Watershed near Chatanika, Alaska, south of Delta Junction,
Alaska and near Healy, AK. Tundra Domain candidates sites are located at
Toolik Field Station south of Prudhoe Bay and at Barrow Environmental
Observatory.

The Nansen Environmental and Remote Sensing Center (NERSC) is seeking
applicants for a position as the Managing Director of NERSC. This
position is a full time, fixed-term position of six years, with the
possibility of extension. The position is located in Bergen, Norway.
NERSC is seeking a clear, analytical, and unifying managing director for
a six year fixed-term contract, who will be responsible for the
development and implementation of the center's strategy. The director
shall ensure that the center's national and international recognition is
further developed and strengthened, and that key goals are achieved. The
director will exercise leadership to secure stable income and an
efficient center organization. Excellent communication skills are
required to inspire, motivate, and involve the staff in an open,
diverse, and equality-based culture.
Applicants should have the following qualifications:
- Relevant training in Earth system sciences at the PhD level
or higher; - Leadership experience from knowledge organizations with a
highly competent work force; - Human Resources and financial understanding;
- A Good record of task accomplishments; and
- Experience with international research cooperation and
competitive international research project funding, particularly
within the European Union systems.
