The Polar Research Board (PRB) of the National Academy of Sciences,
Engineering, and Medicine is seeking nominations for U.S.
Representatives to the Inernational Arctic Science Committee (IASC).
PRB serves as the U.S. National Committee to IASC, a non-governmental,
international scientific organization that promotes and facilitates
cooperation in all aspects of Arctic research. In this role, the PRB is
responsible for the selection of the U.S. Delegate and two members to
each of the Working Groups (WG) of IASC.
The PRB is seeking nominations of candidates to serve as representatives
to each of the five working groups: atmosphere, cryosphere, marine,
social and human, and terrestrial. We are also seeking nominations for
an alternate U.S. Delegate that will be responsible for assisting the
current Delegate (Dr. Larry Hinzman, University of Alaska Fairbanks)
with the various tasks and responsibilities that are required. These
individuals must be willing to commit significant time to the
organization, because much work occurs between annual meetings and in
the various project work groups.
Qualifications and Responsibilities: Nominees must have appropriate
disciplinary expertise, current relevant scientific activity, be active
in communicating with the appropriate scientific community, and have a
demonstrated ability to function in a collaborative, international
setting. Those selected must stay in close communication with the PRB,
the relevant federal agencies, and the US science community so that he
or she can accurately reflect US interests at meetings. Self-nominations
are welcome.
