Organizer announce a call for abstracts for the Arctic Frontiers Science
conference entitled "White Space - Blue Frontiers," that will convene
25-27 January 2017 Tromso, Norway.

Arctic Frontiers is an international arena on sustainable development in
the Arctic. The conference addresses the management of opportunities and
challenges to achieve viable economic growth with societal and
environmental sustainability. Arctic Frontiers 2017 will discuss the
gaps in our knowledge about the Arctic oceans and the role these will
play in the future.

The science section will address four main themes:

  • Bridging physical and biological processes in the Arctic Ocean,
  • Pushing back the Frontiers: New approaches, new technologies, and new
    insights,
  • Future Fisheries, and

  • Managing risk in policymaking and law.

    The call for papers is now open. All abstracts will be reviewed by
    members of the four scientific committees for rating of abstract
    quality and presentation content.

The Alaska Fire Science Consortium (AFSC) announces a call for abstracts
for an international workshop entitled "Opportunities to Apply Remote
Sensing in Boreal/Arctic Wildfire Management and Science." The workshop
will convene 4-6 April 2017 at the University of Alaska Fairbanks, in
Fairbanks, Alaska.

The workshop is organized with support from the NASA Applied Sciences
Program. The objectives are to advance remote sensing tools and data for
operational and scientific applications by high northern latitude fire
ecology and management communities. Participants will include
interagency fire managers as well as scientists with an interest in
remote sensing and a variety of disciplines.

Topics of interest include: potential fire risk, near real-time fire
behavior, and post-fire effects.

With sufficient interest, NASA's Applied Remote Sensing Training (ARSET)
project and/or Short-term Prediction Research and Transition Center
(SPoRT) will offer an optional day of hands-on training for integrating
NASA Earth Science data into wildland fire science, decision making, and
management. Please indicate your interest in this opportunity on the
abstract submission form.

Abstracts of up to 500 words for both oral and poster presentations are
welcome.

Limited funding is available to offset selected presenters' travel
expenses, with priority given to students and other young investigators.
