The Arctic Research Consortium of the U.S. (ARCUS), in collaboration
with Arctic Portal, Arctic21, the Woods Hole Research Center (WHRC),
Polar Learning and Responding (PoLAR) Climate Change Education
Partnership, EDU-Arctic, and the Consortium for Ocean Leadership, is
pleased to announce a special side-event to the 2016 Arctic Science
Ministerial meeting at the ARCUS office in Washington, D.C. on 27
September 2016.
Scheduled to take place immediately before the opening events of the
first White House Arctic Science Ministerial, this special event is
intended to engage the international community of Arctic stakeholders in
a constructive dialogue around one of the Ministerial's four key themes:
"Arctic Science as a Vehicle for STEM Education and Citizen
Empowerment."
The side-event has been organized into two sessions. The morning session
will take place 9:00 am - 11:30 am EDT and feature two panel discussions
by prominent Arctic educators, researchers, and community leaders. The
public is invited to attend the morning panel presentations via online
streaming. In-person participation in the AM session is now closed due
to space limitations.
During the event's afternoon session 1:00pm- 4:00pm EDT, the public is
invited to visit the ARCUS DC office in-person to learn about hands-on
Arctic science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM)
activities and resources. Participants will have the chance to explore
tools ranging from mobile apps to scenario explorations to card and
board games that help formal and informal educators, school
administrators, lifelong learners, and families bring the Arctic into
their homes and classrooms. Visitors are invited to stop by at any time
throughout the afternoon.
Registration is required for both sessions.
