Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory (LDEO) of Columbia University invites
applications for postdoctoral fellowships in the fields of earth and
environmental sciences. These full-time fellowships are funded for 24
months and based in Palisades, New York.

The principal selection criteria for Fellows are scientific excellence
and a clearly expressed plan to investigate problems at the forefront of
Earth science. Applications from all related fields are welcomed.
Candidates should have recently completed their PhD or should expect
to complete their degree requirements by September 2017.

Fellowships are supported institutionally for 24 months, include a
$7,500 research allowance, and carry an annual salary of $64,000.
Successful candidates will be encouraged to apply for external funding
and may be eligible for further internal awards and positions. LDEO is
especially interested in qualified candidates whose record of
achievement will contribute to the diversity of the Observatory's
scientific personnel.

The Institute on Research and Education in Energy, Environment, and Water
(RENEW) at the University at Buffalo (UB) seeks to hire new faculty in
the areas of climate change modeling including application to ice-sheet
modeling and atmosphere/ocean/ice multi-physics geophysical modeling.
These full-time tenure track positions will be based in Buffalo, New York.

The Institute seeks to hire outstanding new faculty in its Climate
Change & Socio-Economic Impacts focus area. This technical focus area
includes strong programs in ice sheet research and dynamics,
high-latitude climate and glacier records, as well as quantitative
hazards and risk analysis, ecological impacts of global environmental
change, and how shifting interpretations of the law affect environmental
values and regulation.

Successful candidates will have earned a PhD by time of appointment.
Postdoctoral experience and/or national laboratory or industry
experience desired. All candidates must have a proven record or strong
drive toward team research, a strong record of research publication, the
ability to attract funding, along with a demonstrated commitment to
effective teaching.

The School of Aquatic and Fishery Sciences (SAFS) at the College of the
Environment at the University of Washington invites applications for a
tenure-track assistant professor in polar marine or freshwater ecology.
The full-time position is based in Seattle, Washington.

SAFS seeks to hire an integrative scientist as part of its continuing
commitment to research and education on Earth's high-latitude regions
through the Future of Ice Initiative. The successful candidate will
advance the understanding of ecological processes and ongoing changes in
high-latitude (polar or subpolar) marine or freshwater ecosystems. SAFS
seeks an ecologist whose research focuses on basic and/or applied
questions and may include high latitude fisheries or broader ecosystem
studies across multiple trophic levels from zooplankton to fish,
seabirds, and marine mammals. A PhD or foreign equivalent in ecology,
biology, zoology, fisheries science, or a related field is required at
the time of appointment and post-doctoral experience is desirable.

separate statements of research and teaching interests, a diversity
statement (a brief statement on how your teaching, research and/or
service contribute to diversity through scholarship or by improving
access to higher education for underrepresented individuals or groups),
copies of three publications that represent your research interests, and

The Center for Ecosystem Science in Society (Ecoss) at Northern Arizona
University seeks candidates for PhD and graduate research assistant
positions in ecosystem ecology. The positions are based in Flagstaff,
Arizona.

The Ecoss mission is to conduct high-impact, innovative research on
ecosystems and how they respond to and shape environmental change, to
train next-gen scientists, and to communicate discovery and its
relevance to people. Research opportunities are available in the
following areas linked to specific Ecoss faculty:

  • The impact of climate change on Alaskan ecosystems, including effects
    of changing fire and permafrost on plants, soils, and ecosystem
    services. M. Mack, T. Schuur.
  • How microorganisms shape the ecology of planet Earth and its responses
    to environmental change, from soils to hot springs to humans.
    B. Hungate, P. Dijkstra, E. Schwartz.
  • Freshwater ecology, including the science of river restoration and dam
    removal, terrestrial aquatic interactions and food web ecology. J. Marks.
  • Exploring the interaction of water and carbon metabolism in diverse
    studies ranging from the limits to height growth of the world's tallest
    trees to drought responses of soil microorganisms. G. Koch.
