    International Arctic Social Sciences Association

The International Arctic Social Sciences Association announces a call
for contributions to the Autumn/Winter 2016 edition of Northern Notes.
Those interested should submit contributions via email by 15 November
2016.

Northern Notes is the newsletter of the International Arctic Social
Sciences Association (IASSA). It is published on the web by the IASSA
Secretariat twice a year with a Spring/Summer and an Autumn/Winter
issue, and is available to all web users. Contributions are invited from
both members and non-members of the Association on issues of interest to
Arctic social scientists.

-Name and affiliation of the author;
-Book announcements: Complete title, publishing details, distributor and
ISBN/ISSN number;

    Collaboration Survey

A researcher is seeking input on a collaboration survey. The survey will
take approximately 20 minutes to complete and participation is
voluntary.

Summary:
The focus of the research is on understanding what is necessary for
projects to succeed when working across borders and cultures,
specifically we are looking at what explains
trans-national/cross-cultural multiparty collaboration performance? How
and to what extent do language, culture, education, distance trust,
shared vision, empathy and identity explain trans-national multiparty
cross-cultural collaboration performance?

    Media in the Circumpolar Region
    University of Ottawa/University of Waterloo

Editors are seeking abstracts for a printed volume on Media in the
Circumpolar Region. Interested researchers are encouraged to submit
abstracts that address the following areas:

-Media influence on public opinion;
-Historical cases of media perceptions on Arctic crises, events,
realities, or actors;
-Agenda-setting function of the media on Arctic issues;
-Studies of metaphorical images occurring in the media;
-Coverage of the Arctic region on social media;
-Framing of Arctic actors and events;
-Visual representations of the Arctic (documentaries,
cartoons, etc.); and
-Diffusion of expert opinions in different media venues.

Special attention will be given to diversity of languages and national
contexts, in order to maximize comparative insights. All communications
must be submitted in English. The objective is to publish an edited book
by early 2018.

The call for paper solicits theoretical as well as empirical
contributions, and will welcome both quantitative and qualitative
studies.

Submission deadline: 15 January 2017.
