Organizers announce a call for abstract submissions to the 31st
Wakefield Fisheries Symposium, entitled "Impacts of a Changing
Environment on the Dynamics of High-latitude Fish and Fisheries." The
symposium will take place 9-12 May 2017 in Anchorage, Alaska.
This year's symposium examines the impacts of the environment, climate
change, and variability on the dynamics of Arctic and subarctic species
of commercial, subsistence, and ecological importance. It will focus on
the effects of warming, loss of sea ice, ocean acidification, and
oceanographic variability on the distribution, phenology, life history,
population dynamics, and interactions of these species and how a better
understanding of these effects can inform the assessment and management
of fish and invertebrate populations in a changing ocean for the benefit
of affected communities.
Abstracts for oral presentations and posters are invited from fishery,
marine, and social scientists as well as managers, industry, and
representatives of affected communities.
Abstract submission deadline: Sunday, 15 January 2017.

2017 Gordon Research Conference on Polar Marine Science
26-31 March 2017

Organizers announce a call for participation applications to the 2017
Gordon Research Conference (GRC) on Polar Marine Science, entitled
"Understanding Ecosystem Change through Time Series Observations,
Technological Advances, and Biophysical Coupled Modeling" and the
associated Gordon Research Seminar (GRS). The seminar will be held 25-26
March 2017 and the conference will convene 26-31 March 2017. Both events
will be held in Ventura, California.
Conference participants will discuss new findings and uncertainties in
observing marine time series data, the use of developing technology for
collecting observations, and successes and challenges emerging from time
series observations and biophysical modeling that can be used to
accurately forecast future ecosystem response.
The GRS will provide a forum for graduate students and postdoctoral
scientists to present their work and interface with peers and experts in
variable disciplines. The GRS will focus on innovative marine
technology, including autonomous and remotely operated instruments,
camera systems, advanced laboratory techniques, and numerical modeling.
Financial support will be offered in priority to graduate students and
postdoctoral fellows attending both the GRC and the preceding GRS. All
attendees are expected to actively participate in the GRS either by
giving an oral presentation or presenting a poster. Therefore, all
applications must include an abstract.
Interested persons must apply to participate in the seminar and
conference. Those wanting to attend both, the seminar and conference,
must apply to each separately. Early application is recommended, as the
events will likely reach capacity. Refer to the application instructions
