The University of Washington announces a call for applications for the
position of Fulbright Visiting Chair in Arctic Studies. This position;
open to Canadian scholars, scientists, practitioners, community, and
political leaders; is for a two quarter residency at the University of
Washington in Seattle, Washington.

Fulbright Visiting Research Chairs are pre-arranged affiliations
intended for Canadian citizens who are exceptional scholars and/or
experienced professionals who wish to conduct research and/or lecture in
the United States. Partner universities, such as the University of
Washington, welcome the Fulbright Visiting Chairs into campus life and
encourage them to engage with students, faculty, and the broader
community. Fulbright Visiting Research Chairs can guest lecture in
university courses, mentor students, lecture in public venues, network,
and promote their research, while representing the Fulbright program,
their home, and their host institutions.

The Canada Fulbright Visiting Chair in Arctic Studies is supported by
the University of Washington's Office of Global Affairs; the Henry M.
Jackson School of International Studies; Social Sciences Division,
College of Arts and Sciences; and the College of the Environment. The
Canadian Studies Center, in the Jackson School, serves as the hosting
unit for the Canada Fulbright Chair.

The World Wildlife Fund-Canada (WWF-Canada) announces a call for
applications for the position of Senior Specialist in Arctic Marine
Conservation. This full-time, permanent position will be located in
Iqaluit or Ottawa, Canada.

The successful candidate will have a Master degree (or equivalent) in
the field of marine studies, biological sciences, conservation biology,
or other relevant field of study and a minimum of five years of relevant
experience in Arctic marine conservation and Inuit land claims
organizations. Additional qualifications include a proven ability to
work collaboratively with diverse partners, understanding of
socio-economic and political challenges in the Canadian Arctic,
experience with collaboration of multi-disciplinary teams and
multi-stakeholder groups, program management skills, and strong written
and verbal communication.

The successful candidate will report to the Vice President of the Arctic
Program and help expand WWF-Canada's work on ocean conservation and
planning in the Arctic, ensure that work is scientifically sound,
incorporate traditional knowledge, and support of the aspirations of
affected communities through key responsibilities including:

  • Implementing activities to drive results based on WWF-Canada's core
    conservation goals for marine planning, protection, and sustainable
    fisheries;
  • Building partnerships and engaging with the full spectrum of
    decision-makers to operationalize ocean protection and planning and
    sustainable fisheries initiatives in the Canadian Arctic;
  • Providing advice on project design and implementation;
  • Working closely with senior staff on national marine planning and
    protection activities;
  • Representing WWF-Canada at meetings, conferences, workshops, and
    similar activities when requested;
  • Maintaining links with scientific, conservation, and governmental
    bodies on issues related to Arctic marine conservation and planning to
    ensure partnerships where appropriate;
  • Engaging with communities and agencies that provide local and
    traditional knowledge relevant to marine conservation and planning; and
  • Remaining abreast of developments in scientific and traditional
    knowledge related to Arctic conservation and planning.
