The Department of Fish and Game, Division of Wildlife Conservation,
announces a call for applications for the position of Wildlife Biologist
II/III. This full-time position is open to Alaska residents and will be
located in Nome or Kotzebue, Alaska.

The successful candidate will oversee the region's intensive management
and research programs for caribou and muskoxen, and the accompanying
predator/prey research for Game Management Unit 22 (Seward Peninsula)
and Game Management Unit 23 (Kotzebue Sound), manage wildlife
populations, and participate in an array of wildlife projects in a
large, remote, northern portion of Alaska.

The Level II position will serve as an assistant research biologist
responsible for segments of intensive management research projects, and
is supervised by the regional research coordinator.

The Level III position serves as an intensive management biologist and
will be responsible for all aspects of intensive management research for
the region.

Minimum qualification for both positions include, but are not limited to:

  • A bachelor's degree from an accredited college in biology, a branch of
    biology, limnology, biometrics, oceanography, forestry, or natural
    resource management.
  • One year of professional level biologist experience. The required
    professional biologist experience is met by service as a Wildlife
    Biologist I, Fishery Biologist I, or Habitat Biologist I with the State
    of Alaska or the equivalent with another employer.

A master's degree from an accredited college in biology, a branch of
biology, limnology, biometrics, oceanography, forestry or natural
resource management, will substitute for the required year of
professional level biologist experience.

This position requires the use or possession of a firearm or ammunition.

A cover letter is required with the application and will be used as a
writing sample. Unofficial college transcripts are required to be
submitted within 48 hours of the close of recruitment.

The Bureau of Ocean Energy Management (BOEM) announces a call for
applications for the position of Wildlife Biologist/Ecologist. This
full-time, permanent position is open to United States citizens and is
located in Anchorage, Alaska.

The successful candidate will use their knowledge and experience of fish
and wildlife species and their habitats to understand the implications
of proposed oil and gas activities to conduct assessments of
environmental effects, conduct Endangered Species Act and the Marine
Mammal Protection Act consultations, and review biological information.
This position is considered an Alaska regional expert on the potential
effects of oil and gas exploration and development on marine species,
habitats, and the ecosystem.

Duties of this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Apply current scientific findings, developments, and advances to
    environmental impact assessments, which may include issues that are
    highly controversial in nature and unique to Alaska;
  • Collect, analyze, interpret, and portray existing scientific
    information as it relates to marine species and their habitats and the
    potential effects of offshore oil and gas activities on these resources;
  • Prepare environmental analyses of potential impacts to fish and
    wildlife species and their habitats in environmental impact statements,
    environmental assessments, and other environmental documents;
  • Prepare and review major sections of environmental impact statements;
  • Determine habitat components of concern for fish and wildlife species
    and evaluate their vulnerability to impacts from noise and disturbance
    from oil and gas exploration and development activities; and
  • Prepare biological assessments, biological evaluations, and necessary
    correspondence in support of consultation under the Endangered Species
    Act and the Marine Mammal Protection Act.

The Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory of Columbia University announces a
call for applications for the position of Lamont Assistant Research
Professor in atmospheric science. This position will receive a
nine-month appointment with partial salary support and is located in
Palisades, New York.

Qualified applicants will have a PhD in atmospheric science or related
field, evidence of ongoing externally-funded research programs or
potential for supporting research programs with external funding, at
least one to two years of relevant research experience, and demonstrated
potential for significant research contributions by having published in
peer-reviewed journals.

The successful candidate is expected to develop a high-impact research
program and contribute broadly to climate research at the Lamont-Doherty
Earth Observatory.

Applicants must provide a curriculum vitae (including a list of
publications), two writing samples, statement of research interests,
list of funded projects or grant applications awaiting approval,
statement of science education and outreach interests, if applicable,
and the names and addresses of at least three references.
