communities including bacterial production. The position is for one
year, with the possibility of renewal for up to three years, and will be
located at the Freshwater Institute in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada.
The successful candidate will have a PhD in oceanography, marine
biology, microbiology, or a related field, with the interest and
capability of using a variety of methods to characterize microbial
processes and interactions in the marine environment. Candidates with
training in polar marine science, experience at sea or ice camps, and
experience in the collection and biochemical analysis of marine or sea
ice samples are encouraged to apply.
Primary responsibilities will include statistical analysis and
interpretation of ecological datasets, participation to field activities
in the high Arctic, development and application of experimental
protocols, laboratory processing, biochemical analysis of samples
(e.g. bacterial and primary production), and primary publication of
research results. This position will include the analysis and write-up
of existing datasets collected in the Arctic Ocean, field work in the
coastal Arctic, experimental research in the laboratory, and will work
closely with a multidisciplinary research group.

the marine ecosystems of the Kitikmeot, the southern part of the
Canadian Arctic Archipelago.
Areas of research include:
- Zooplankton ecology and physiology,
- Ichthyoplankton assemblages and larval fish ecology,
- Ecological studies of benthic and/or pelagic fish, and
- Hydroacoustic studies of zooplankton and/or fish.
Duties will include:
