The University of Manitoba announces a call for applications for the
position of Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada
(NSERC) Industrial Research Chair (IRC) in northern oil spill research.
This full-time tenure-track position, at the rank of Assistant or
Associate Professor, will be located at the Churchill Marine Observatory
at the University of Manitoba in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada.

The successful candidate will be expected to work with the industrial
partner, Stantec Consulting Inc., and the University of Manitoba to
apply for the NSERC IRC (Associate) program. Appointment with the
University of Manitoba is conditional upon the successful award of a
NSERC IRC (Associate) to the candidate. The successful candidate will
have a reduced teaching load and be expected to develop and maintain a
vigorous and independently funded research program that will involve the
industrial partner and other relevant collaborators. This position will
also be expected to play a major role in the Churchill Marine
Observatory (CMO) project and other collaborative Arctic research
programs at the University of Manitoba.

Early- to mid-career researchers in the fields of detection, fate,
effects, or mitigation of oil or other transportation-related
contaminant spills in the northern environment are encouraged to apply.
Expertise in the Arctic marine environment, including sea ice, will be
considered an asset.

The University of Manitoba announces a call for applications for the
position of Canada Research Chair (CRC, Tier 1) in marine oil spill
science. This tenure-track or tenured appointment at the rank of
Associate or Full Professor will be located in Winnipeg, Manitoba,
Canada.

The successful candidate will be nominated by the University of Manitoba
to apply for the Government of Canada's CRC (Tier 1) program.
Appointment with the University of Manitoba is conditional upon the
successful award of a CRC (Tier 1) to the candidate. The successful
candidate will be expected to play a major role in the recently funded
Genome Canada project, GENICE, Churchill Marine Observatory (CMO), and
other collaborative Arctic marine programs at the University of Manitoba.

In accordance with the CRC (Tier 1) criteria, the candidate must be an
outstanding and innovative researcher. Applicants must have a PhD,
proven success in obtaining external funding and training highly
qualified personnel (HQP), and be internationally recognized as a leader
in research and interdisciplinary scholarship. The successful candidate
will be expected to develop and maintain a vigorous and independently
funded research program that will be highly collaborative and involves
local, national, and international partners.

Applicants with internationally recognized expertise in the broad fields
of fate, effects, mitigation, or detection of oil or other
transportation-related contaminant spills in the marine environment are
encouraged to apply. Expertise in petroleomics or the Arctic marine
environment, including sea ice, will be considered an asset.
