  1. Satellite Data Available
    Greenland Ice Sheet, 1992-2016
    European Space Agency

The European Space Agency (ESA) Greenland Climate Change Initiative
(CCI) project has released a new updated set of essential climate
variables for the Greenland ice sheet. These data confirm the continued
rapid mass loss of the ice sheet and highlight the possibility for
detailed tracking of "change hotspots" from space.

Updates include:

  • CryoSat elevation change trends 2010-16 on a five-kilometer grid
    (two-year and five-year running means);
  • Ice velocities for the entire Greenland ice sheet from Sentinel-1,
    extended with winter 2016/17 data;
  • Time series of ice velocities for major outlet glaciers updated to
    2017, with supplementary velocity data derived from Sentinel-2 optical
    feature tracking;
  • Updated Calving Front Locations for major outlet glaciers from
    Sentinel-1 and Landsat-8; and
  • GRACE mass change products for the entire ice sheet as well as eight
    main drainage basins updated.

The data are open and available in netCDF format, supplemented with
ASCII/shapefile formats, following a simpler registration procedure. A
newsletter and further information on products can be found at the
Greenland CCI web site.

The Making Earth System Data Records for Use in Research Environments
(MEaSUREs) Greenland Ice Mapping Project (GIMP) Digital Elevation Model
(DEM) from GeoEye and WorldView Imagery data set is now available at the
NASA National Snow and Ice Data Center Distributed Active Archive Center
(NSIDC DAAC).

This data set consists of an enhanced resolution DEM for the Greenland
Ice Sheet derived from sub-meter resolution, panchromatic stereoscopic
imagery collected by the GeoEye-1, WorldView 1, WorldView 2, and
WorldView 3 satellites.

Data authors: Ian Howat, Adelaide Negrete, and Ben Smith

  1. Survey Input Requested
    Summit Station Science Summit Organizing Committee
    Summit Station, Greenland

This survey will be used to assess the major science questions
investigated at Summit Station, Greenland. This survey is for use by the
Summit Station Science Summit Organizing Committee for informational
purposes among colleagues to gauge the broad scientific use of Summit
Station and its data. Short answers are appropriate for this survey and
should take approximately ten minutes to complete.

Survey deadline: 14 April 2017.

Survey participants may include those that have conducted, are currently
conducting, or may be conducting a science investigation at Summit
Station, Greenland or use science data from Summit Station.

To participate in the survey, go to:
